講演要旨:Malaria transmission remains high among residents in the Lake Victoria basin, while it has been considerably reduced in the other Kenyan regions in recent years. It is reasonable to assume that the environment associated with the lake still maintains a high number of malaria vectors. However, it is still uncertain what exactly makes vector production and transmission intensity greater in the lake region. We revealed the factors associated with vector densities and transmission intensity. Since 2007, we have monitored malaria vector densities, breeding sites and infection rates among children in the villages near Lake Victoria in western Kenya. Then, we examined the relationships of vector densities and infection rates with the several environmental factors. Rainfall was significantly correlated with the density of the Anopheles gambiae complex, and infection rate. The fluctuation of lake water level was significantly associated with the density of the Anopheles funestus complex. Bed net use was also an important factor. The vector densities and transmission was greater in the villages where large water pools existed along the lakeshore. The lake plays an important role in malaria vector production and transmission intensity.
