Human environment security in Asia Pacific Rim region: water/energy/food linkage

Needless to say, water, food and energy are “the Three Sacred Treasures” essential to human beings. However, in the recent years, there have been cases manifesting all around us where security of other factors are damaged in order to supply one factor. For example, there is a concern over pollution of groundwater from exploitation of shale gas. Especially regarding frictions that can arise when expanding the use of water and energy respectively, this research quantitatively evaluates integrated indicators that assess the vulnerability and resilience using geographical information system (GIS) within the framework of Core Project at Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (Human-Environmental Security in Asia-Pacific Ring of Fire: Water-Energy-Food Nexus) which started on April 2013, to advance the research in order to avoid critical situation in the future.
