the academic position of Assistant Professor.

Job description:
　　(Immediately after employment) The successful candidate will participate in the
　　research project “Quantifying and understanding the compound weather and
　　climate extremes regarding future projection for Japan and the Asia-Pacific
　　region”, an Environment Research and Technology Development Fund project
　　(see Remarks).
　　(Extent of change) No change expected.

Research field:
　　Meteorology.

Qualifications:
　　The applicant must have a doctoral degree (including whom obtains a doctoral
　　degree by the date of appointment).

Job starting date:
　　The earliest day of convenience after or on the day of October 1, 2024.

Term of office:
　　Until March 31, 2027.

Contract renewal: No contract renewal.

Probationary period: 1 month.

Working hours:
　　The discretionary working system in the type of professional work
　　 (upon consent)* or Fixed working hours system
　　* The working hours for a day are deemed as 7 hours and 45 minutes.

Salary and allowances:
　　Compensation based on the National University Corporation Hokkaido University
　　Specially Appointed Academic Staff Working Regulations and National University
　　Corporation Hokkaido University Internal Regulations on the Application of
　　Annual Salary System.

Remarks:
　　　　The project “Quantifying and understanding the compound weather and
　　climate extremes regarding future projection for Japan and the Asia-Pacific region”
　　(lead:Takeshi Horinouchi; Fiscal year 2024-2026) is carried out by five universities
　　and two research institutes in Japan, and it consists of four sub-themes. The
　　project will conduct novel research on extreme events by using atmospheric
　　reanalyses and future simulations based on meteorology and climatology,
　　and it provides information for climatic impact studies. The successful candidate
　　is expected to work proactively based on his/her strengths. Inquiry on the project
　　should be sent to Prof. Horinouchi.
　　　　To actively join discussion in the project and collaborate with participants
　　across organizations, it is desirable that the candidates can communicate in
　　Japanese. It is expected that those who have not done studies on the project’s
　　theme can still conduct good collaborative studies and broaden perspectives
　　if they have strong background in meteorology. The Environment Research and
　　Technology Development Fund has a support system to promote self-motivated
　　activity of early career researchers (up to 20% of one’s effort; available to apply
　　for external funds), and this project will encourage to use it.
　　　　The annual salary will be approximately from 6,500K to 7,000K yen.
