              Position Open: Assistant Professor
                Location: Sapporo, Japan

Faculty of Environmental Earth Science, Hokkaido University invites applications for the
academic position of Assistant Professor.

Available position: Assistant Professor, full-time (five-year employment, updateable, but in
   the case of reappointment, the term of office shall be five years and limited to once).

Number of vacancies: 1

   Group of Biogeosystem Science or Group of Marine and Atmospheric Geochemistry,
   Section of Earth System Science, Faculty of Environmental Earth Science.

Education in charge:
   Course in Biogeochemistry, Division of Earth System Science, Graduate School of
   Environmental Science.

Research field:
   Biogeochemistry or paleoenvironmental science. The successful candidate is
   expected to be highly motivated for research in the biogeochemistry of the
   atmosphere, ocean, and land or paleoenvironmental science based on fieldwork and
   laboratory experiments (using chemical or molecular biological analyses) and be
   enthusiastic for graduate studies education in the Course in Biogeochemistry.

   The applicant must have a doctoral degree. The candidate is expected to have a
   remarkable achievement in the related research field and contribute to education and
   research for students in the above education course.

Probationary period: 3 months.

Working hours:
   The discretionary working system in the type of professional work. The working hours
   for a day are deemed as 7 hours and 45 minutes.

Salary and allowances:
   Compensation based on the National University Corporation Hokkaido University Salary
   Rules for Faculty Subject to Annual Salary System.

Social insurance:
   Employees’ Pension Insurance (Kousei Nenkin), MEXT Mutual Aid Association Health
   Insurance, Employment Insurance, and Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance.

   No smoking on the premises except in specified outdoor smoking areas.

   (1) A full curriculum vitae (add your Web of Science ResearcherID if available).
     Applicants who have been employed at Hokkaido University since April 1,
     2013 (in any positions, such as part-time lecturers, teaching assistants,
     teaching fellows, research assistants, or short-term support staff) should list
     the details.
   (2) A list of scientific publications (it should be classified into original peerreviewed
     papers, reviews, and others) and a list of external research funds
     awarded to the applicant.
   (3) Reprints or copies of five representative papers.
   (4) Outlines of research history and future perspectives (about 1,000 words).
   (5) Outlines of education experience and future perspectives (about 750 words).
   (6) Two references with their contact information.
   (7) A storage medium, such as a CD, DVD, or USB flash memory, containing
   PDF files of the above documents (1) – (6).
