IFES-GCOE Global COE Program "Establishment of Center for Integrated Field Environmental Science"
Graduate School of Environmental Science & Division of Environmental Resources,
Graduate School of Agriculture
Hokkaido University
The international workshop entitled “Planning of Field Training Course for the Integrated Environmental Science” hosted by GCOE-IFES was held on 4th March 2009 at the meeting room of the Graduate School of Environmental Science, Hokkaido University, Japan. To develop integrated field environmental science, training young scientists to have international and interdisciplinary aspects is very important and training course for field experiment, survey and observation technique would be effective. The aim of this workshop were to exchange information about the field training course which had been held or being planning in Japan and/or other countries, and to discuss what better training course should be in the future. There were two presentations concerning international training courses for the tropical rain forest by Dr. Rhett Harrison (CTFS Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute) and for marine science by Dr. Mark Lenz (IFM-GEOMAR). Besides, eight Japanese presenters from Kyoto University, Tohoku University and Hokkaido University reported the international training course which had been done or had been planning, including our GCOE program. Many students and scientists attended the workshop and discussion was very active. In the end of the session, many suggestions and directions including the effective way of the training program and evaluation of the programs were proposed and discussed among audiences.
