② Innovative interface and super nanotechnology


Surface chemistry and nanotechnology


 Nowadays, nanotechnology is one of the hot topics. Extreme nanotechnology is the technique, which fabricate the structure controlled with the functional molecule in an atomic scale. Self-assembly method promoted the control technique remarkably. However, the control of the order with two kinds species in atomic scale could not be achieved.
So far, the control in atomic scale was realized by the nano-fablication using scanning probe microscopy only. This technique allows to write the character and the company logo mark. This method is attractive. However, the chemical method is more suitable to create the functional surface designed in atomic scale, considering the fabrication time, the substrate size, shape, and immense surface area in order to use as a practical device.
So that, we proposed the fabrication technique by using the mold with atom/molecule to control the order the functional material on the surface.

Nano-line structure of two different kinds of component by using atomic mold


 This research had been started in 1999. We achieved to create nano-line structure of two different functional molecules on the surface by using underpotential deposited lead atom as the atomic mold. For example, the activity of the catalytic species could be controlled to the orientation of acceleration/suppression. This method was not demonstrated on only the smooth surface but also rough surface. Therefore, it had been proven that this method is useful for a practical application.

In recent, we investigates many kinds of atomic mold to control the order in not only straight line but also nano-dot. Although our goal is the development of the environmental mediation, this research also has very high possibility to realize the extreme nanotechnology.
