I assess the impact of climate and ocean variability on marine ecosystems and fisheries organisms by developing ocean forecast systems, coupled ocean-sea ice lower-trophic-level ecosystem models, and individual-based models for specific fisheries resources, as well as ocean monitoring in collaboration with scientists of physics, chemistry, and biology. My research focuses mainly on subarctic waters in the Northwest Pacific Ocean, dealing with multiple scales from coastal, continental shelf to basin scale. My research covers basic to applied science, or from the independent field of physical oceanography to interdisciplinary research involving marine biology, marine chemistry, satellite oceanography, and fisheries sciences. My research also utilizes most techniques related to physical oceanography that include ocean dynamics, simulation, data assimilation, in situ and satellite observations, data analysis, and development of analytical methods.
