Seminar for conflict management in nature conservation,

a case study of conflicts between yezo-deer management and endangered raptor conservation in Shiretoko

A series of four seminars will be held to discuss and learn conflict
management in nature conservation. Integration of various sectors
and consensus building among stakeholders are some of the key issues
for ecosystem management, and these seminars will provide young
researchers with opportunities to broaden perspectives and to develop
skills to manage (not necessarily solve) conflicts.
Experienced researchers for deer and raptors are invited to the
seminars to share with participants the background, current status and
issues. Participants are encouraged to discuss issues with lecturers
and other participants.

Plan for four seminars is as follows;
1st seminar: basic ecological info on deer and raptors in Shiretoko
(28/June/09, N11 lecture room at Faculty of Agriculture)(Successfully
done!)
2nd seminar: management issues of deer and raptors in Shiretoko
(03/Oct/09, 10am~5pm, N11 lecture room at Faculty of Agriculture)
3rd seminar: site visit to Shiretoko for 3 days, discussions through
role-playing games with experienced researchers in the field are
expected
(13~15/Nov/09, Shiretoko)
4th seminar: Symposium in Sapporo (30/Jan/2010)
